The Complaint: "Filmmakers are always screwing with the source material. They can't even always get the race of the characters right: he was white in the comics, and it's of absolute importance that he retains this in a movie, because that's how I see him, and it's just so important to who he is as a person." Why It's Annoying: Because, most of the time, race is not an integral part of a character's conception, and so it's just people nit-picking and whining for the sake of it. Now, if say, Black Panther were cast as white, then there would be a very understandable outrage, but does anyone really care if the likes of Kingpin, Nick Fury and Johnny Storm are changed from white to black? It really needs to be more important that they're a good actor and suited for the part, which in all three of these cases (Michael Clarke Duncan, Samuel L. Jackson and Michael B. Jordan) they absolutely are. There are some instances where the character's race change is a little baffling in fairness, such as Thor's Heimdall (Idris Elba), whose race was changed to black despite Norse characters prolifically being white, but Elba killed the part, so who really cares all that much? Plus, in a movie with so many more absurd things happening, is it at all an issue?
