Why It's Desperate: Argo proved beyond all doubt just how much Hollywood loves to watch movies about itself, and so one about infamously blacklisted Hollywood screenwriter Dalton Trumbo should go down a treat in theory. Plus, the cast includes Golden Globe winners Bryan Cranston and John Goodman, Oscar nominee Diane Lane and Oscar winner Helen Mirren. Could it be anymore eager to win? Will It Succeed?: Sadly not. Reviews have been positive but not effusive, with most of the praise directed at Cranston's performance rather than the writing or Jay Roach's (Meet the Parents) fairly TV-esque direction. Cranston might sneak a Golden Globe nod if he's lucky, but the part seems a little under-written for any Oscar success.
