12 Years A Slave: 12 Oscars It Could Snatch Up

7. Best Supporting Actor - Michael Fassbender

You can make a case for multiple actors out of this ensemble cast ranging from Benedict Cumberbatch€™s more merciful and morally conflicted portrayal of a Baptist preacher slave owner to Paul Dano€™s often physically abusive and evil portrayal of a foreman, but of all the male supporting players there€™s only one that will endlessly haunt you long you after finishing the film; Steve McQueen€™s frequent collaborating star Michael Fassbender. Michael Fassbender plays an infinitely more ruthless slave owner than what is seen from Cumberbatch (who actually occasionally shows his slaves some humanity). This is the complete opposite end of the spectrum and is a character capable of horrific abuse, both physical and verbal, rape, and pure hatred for African Americans. Fassbender delivers an unforgettable performance along with his heinous actions that will leave you speechless and in shock at how despicable a human being can be.
