A film adaptation of Erik Larson's novel about infamous serial killer Dr. H. H. Holmes has been in the works since 2010, when Leonardo DiCaprio purchased the film rights with the intention of possibly starring while Martin Scorsese would direct.

It's a hell of a pitch, that's for sure, but given the sheer number of projects Scorsese attaches himself to any one time, and the fact he's 75 years old, it's easy to imagine this one passing him by.

It's possible that DiCaprio could eventually shop the project around to other filmmakers, but given his success working with Scorsese, he'd probably rather pass on the project than take it to someone else.

A film with this many fascinating ingredients shouldn't take this long to get off the ground, so all things considered, it's probably never going to happen.
