Why It Deserves Best Picture: Armando Iannucci's latest political satire propels the writer-director into an ambitious new realm by tackling real-world figures for the first time...but hilariously insisting that the actors retain their regional accents.

Though this could've settled for being a cheap gimmick, Iannucci elevates it with a pithy, grimly hilarious script, fantastic production design and the game efforts of a terrific ensemble cast.

And of course, its relevance to the current political climate is both undeniable and terrifying.

Why It Won't Get Nominated: Unfortunately the film still doesn't have a U.S. release date, which disqualifies it right out of the gate.

Even so, it would've likely proven too small and off-kilter to garner much more than a Best Original Screenplay nod, as happened with Iannucci's brilliant 2009 film In the Loop.
