13 Comic Book Villains That Movies Ruined Worse Than Dr Doom

11. Emma Frost (X-Men: First Class)

In fairness, Emma Frost (January Jones) displays a number of her famous comic book abilities in X-Men: First Class, namely telepathy and transforming into a diamond state, but there's one real reason why this rendition of the character just doesn't work: Jones' absolutely terrible performance. Jones is known to most audiences as Betty Draper in AMC's Mad Men, and she did a fine job there as a curt, almost perennially miserable housewife, but her turn in First Class suggests that's pretty much the only acting mode she can play. Her Frost oozes sex appeal but Jones plays her as ridiculously, well, frosty, the result being that she seems like a bimbo completely devoid of any personality whatsoever, such that many fans took to calling her a "fembot". Her performance was even infamously ridiculed by screenwriter Damon Lindelof (Lost), who tweeted, "Emma Frost's THREE mutant powers, Telepathy, Transformation to Solid Diamond and last but not least, Sucking at Acting." Granted, the Frost character wasn't written as hugely engaging, but with a better actress, she wouldn't have seemed anywhere near this robotic and wooden.
