What The Critics Said: Critics called Life a riveting sci-fi thriller enlivened by an impressive cast and Daniel Espinosa's stylish direction, resulting in an uncommonly tense entry into the genre.
Why It Actually Sucked: Though the plaudits for the cast and crew are certainly on point, both of these positives are unfortunately wasted in a movie that borrows way, way too much from Alien and, in the vein of Ridley Scott's more recent sci-fi flicks, the characters can't help but eventually start behaving like idiots.
Countless scenes drag on and on, and bar the occasional imaginative death scene, it's really just a complacent facsimile of so many better-formed sci-fi flicks before it. With a sharper script, this could've really been something special.
