The Movie: Gil Kenan (Monster House) directs Sam Rockwell and Rosemarie DeWitt in this remake of the Tobe Hooper-directed horror classic. Why The Fanboys Will Hate It: Horror fanboys are already pre-hating it, even if the first trailer released wasn't that bad. It just seems like another pointless horror remake that's likely going to dumb down everything people loved about the original, and even if it's competently assembled, it just seems wildly unnecessary if you're over the age of 15. Will It Succeed Anyway?: Almost certainly. Horror films are an easy money-spinner for studios, and given how many youngsters won't even be aware of the original movie, it'll do just fine. While it's opening against juggernauts Pan and Pixels, it's one of only a few horror movies released over the summer, so it won't have too much to directly compete with. Given how critics care much less about remakes than fanboys, reviews could certainly be decent or even above average.
