Box Office: $1.347 billion

Though pre-release tracking suggested that Black Panther was going to do gangbusters business, even the most optimistic of fans couldn't have ever expected it to gross almost $1.35 billion worldwide.

That makes it currently the 9th highest-grossing film of all time, inexplicably topping the likes of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Frozen. Who the hell saw that coming?

Above all else, it speaks to both the pop-culture phenomenon that Black Panther became early last year and just how poorly black people are represented in blockbuster fare.

As an added treat, it's also the most commercially successful film ever made by a black director.
