The Original: 1998's Antonio Banderas-starring action adventure flick was wildly praised by critics for its throwback appeal to the swashbuckling films of Errol Flynn's era, while audiences paid a whopping $250 million to see the movie. This led to the inevitable 2005 sequel, The Legend of Zorro, which was nowhere near as financially or critically successful as the first movie, criticised for being a routine, unimaginative sequel, killing a potential cash cow stone dead in the process. Time Since The Last Movie: 9 years The Reboot: Zorro was very nearly rebooted with 2012's proposed Zorro Reborn (starring Gael Garcia Bernal) yet hasn't been heard from in a while, and Sony are reportedly keen to press on with a gritty, Dark Knight-esque reboot written by Chris Boal (brother of Oscar-winning The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty writer Mark Boal).
