13 Movies You Won't Believe Are Being Rebooted Already

11. I Know What You Did Last Summer

The Original: Reviled by critics but a commercial smash, 1997's I Know What You Did Last Summer helped make a star out of lead Jennifer Love Hewitt, leading to the lame-brained, hilariously lazy 1998 sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, which while financially successful, did nowhere near as well as the original and was even more panned by critics. A third film, I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer, was released direct-to-video in 2006 with none of the original cast returning. Unsurprisingly, it was a critical and commercial flop, killing the franchise off...for a while, anyway. Time Since The Last Movie: 8 years, 3 months The Reboot: It was reported in September that Oculus writer-director Mike Flanagan was attached to helm a reboot due for release sometime in 2016, re-adapting the 1973 Lois Duncan book on which the original film was based. Given that the original story isn't exactly a hallmark of classic fiction, don't expect a masterpiece if it ever actually happens, which Sony are apparently very keen to rush out into cinemas. On the other hand, at least Flanagan is a talented writer-director, and there's therefore a pretty good chance this could at least be a better movie than the turgid original.
