13 Movies You Won't Believe Are Being Rebooted Already

10. I Am Legend

The Original: 2007's Will Smith-starring sci-fi horror flick is actually the third adaptation of Richard Matheson's 1954 novel of the same name, after 1964's Vincent Price-starring The Last Man on Earth and 1971's Charlton Heston-starring The Omega Man. With a huge $585 million box office and solid critical acclaim (namely for Smith's strong performance), it's unsurprising that a follow-up was proposed. Due to the death of Smith's character at the end of the film, the notion of a prequel was floated around, yet Smith, notoriously allergic to follow-ups that aren't called Men in Black, balked at the idea. Time Since The Last Movie: 6 years, 11 months The Reboot: In April of this year, it was announced that a spec sci-fi script had been re-written to become an I Am Legend reboot, in the hope of kick-starting a new franchise with a new lead actor (one who presumably won't be killed off at the end this time). If Warner Bros. have the sense to give the new film a different title, then they might be able to get away with a thematically similar post-apocalyptic yarn, but if they release another film simply called "I Am Legend" within the next 5-10 years, it is just going to make audiences groan.
