13 Upcoming Movie Sequels We Really Don’t Need

4. Ride Along 2 (January 15, 2016)

Ride Along is one of the worst-reviewed movies of 2014 so far, though in fairness, it's really not all that bad, as long as you can tolerate the larger-than-life personality of Kevin Hart, who makes a rather amusing foil to Ice Cube's stoic, bada** cop. Ride Along is far from a great or even particular good film, but it fills the sorely empty buddy cop niche well enough, even if it certainly would have benefited from being R-rated to cement that Lethal Weapon-esque tone a little more. The movie was a surprise smash hit, making $146 million against a $25 million budget, and a sequel was confirmed just a few weeks after the movie was released, with Cube, Hart and director Tim Story unsurprisingly all returning. As mildly amusing as the first movie was, does it really warrant a sequel? It feels like everything that needs to be covered character-wise has been done, and short of the writers adding a game-changing element into the mix (perhaps a third, white character for comedic effect), this one has the potential to draw pretty low mileage.
