Though director Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Edge of Tomorrow) has a pretty solid track record with blockbuster fare, this big-budget young adult adaptation reeks of hubris.
By casting Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley in the lead roles, the clear assumption is that audiences will watch anything with Spider-Man and Rey in, but history has proven time and time again that this is rarely true with ensemble tentpole movies.
It's also in a killbox of a box office slot, releasing just after Dark Phoenix, the same day as How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, and worst of all, a week before Captain Marvel cuts its legs off completely.
Unless it moves release date or reviews exceptionally well, it's toast. And even then, it's still probably toast.
