Even though the latest Smurfs movie will be fully animated and has no sign of Neil Patrick Harris, the Smurfs brand has been pretty much tainted beyond recognition by the two previous live-action movies, the second of which was a substantial box office disappointment after the success of the first.

While ditching the live-action-animation hybrid style was probably a smart idea, it remains to be seen whether young audiences still have any energy and patience for this property given how little they seemed to care for it in 2013. Plus, rebooting anything less than five years after the fact just seems...wrong.

It won't be a major loser for Columbia, but it won't exactly kickstart the franchise they were hoping for either.

Estimated Box Office: $185 million (approx $90 million budget).
