15 Awful Horror Movies That Just Weren't Scary

9. Halloween III: Season Of The Witch

Why It Wasn't Scary: The main reason Halloween 3 just doesn't work is that John Carpenter rather foolishly wanted to deviate from the formula of Michael Myers killing people, but still wanted to retain the Halloween name. Hence, a movie that should have just been called Season of the Witch has Halloween 3 slapped in front of it, and audiences the world over were disappointed when they sat through it without a single glimpse of their favourite William Shatner mask-clad, knife-wielding maniac. Even though that's plenty reason enough to rally against it, what about the actual plot on its own terms? It revolves around a nefarious toy company called Silver Shamrock who are manufacturing Halloween masks that will kill anyone who wears them. Yeah, it's about as lame as it sounds, there's a mega-irritating Silver Shamrock theme song that plays throughout the movie, and the acting blows from top to bottom. How To Improve It: For starters, actually have Michael Myers in it or don't bother marketing it as a Halloween film. Get rid of the witchcraft plot and, well, basically anything that wouldn't fit in a regular Halloween movie (so, pretty much everything). Basically, either completely disassociate the movie from the Halloween franchise and it might be a passable Netflix horror film to kill some time after a night out drinking, or bin the whole Silver Shamrock storyline and just tell the story that became Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, not that it was anything more than a garden variety slasher flick, mind. Still, it would at least give audiences what they asked for.
