The combination of Michael Bay and Nazis frankly sounds like a disastrous idea, albeit one that's also totally fascinating.

Controversy emerged when set snaps were released of Nazi flags being draped over Blenheim Palace, Winston Churchill's home and one of the movie's shooting locations.

The popular theory is that this is a flashback sequence likely dealing with Anthony Hopkins' war veteran character, and some fans have speculated that there may even be Nazi Transformers getting a look in, which is frankly just insane(ly awesome).

Bay responded to the criticism by claiming that Churchill is in fact one of the movie's big heroes, and he has no intention of disrespecting the Prime Minister's legacy.

The jury remains out until next year, of course.
