Then try out The Half of It, a bracing slice of young adult dramedy which treads the same uneasy line as the likes of Me, Earl, and the Dying Girl and Kings of Summer.

Like those earlier indie teen hits, the plot manages to be both paper thin and convoluted, but it's nonetheless serviceable. And like those earlier flicks, this one manages to balance poignancy and laugh out loud lines for a convincing, charming, and slightly bittersweet portrait of adolescence's early uncertain years.
