The Netflix documentary Murder to Mercy follows her case and the widespread attention it received many years after her imprisonment, depicting the righteous anger felt by many protestors who were horrified to learn a child prostitute was imprisoned simply for trying to save her own life.

Illustrating a uniquely American tragedy, this documentary is well made and tastefully handled, but remains the most difficult and deeply moving piece of filmmaking on this list.
