10. Star Wars: The Last Jedi Is The Series' First Best Picture Nominee Since A New Hope
1978's A New Hope is the only Star Wars movie to date to land a prestigious Best Picture nomination, and aside from The Empire Strikes Back, it's mostly easy to understand why the others didn't make the cut.

The Force Awakens probably could've sneaked in there if it had been shown to awards guilds a little earlier and built up a stronger head of steam, and that will probably be a lesson Disney will have learned this time.
Considering the obvious hype following Mark Hamill's return to the Luke Skywalker role and the brilliant Rian Johnson writing and directing, there's a lot that could propel this one to Best Picture glory...as long as the voters are given ample time to actually see the damn thing.
