15 Early Predictions For 2018 Oscars
9. Armie Hammer Beats Daniel Day-Lewis For Best Actor
That's probably a headline you never thought you'd read, right? It just might happen this year, though, as Armie Hammer (yes, very same The Lone Ranger Armie Hammer) is picking up rave reviewers for his performance in Sundance smash hit Call Me by Your Name, a drama in which a young man (Timothée Chalamet) meets an older academic (Hammer) who he falls in love with.
Hammer is already being wildly buzzed about for Best Actor honours, but his major immediate competition is of course Daniel Day-Lewis, who will be playing the protagonist in Paul Thomas Anderson's currently untitled 1950s fashion drama.
Though this is Day-Lewis' first role in five years and his last collaboration with PTA resulted in another Best Actor Oscar, it's entirely possible the Academy may feel that they've awarded the legendary actor enough for now, and may feel compelled to give it to a more unexpected nominee such as Hammer.
