Park Chan-wook is one of South Koreas most revered filmmakers, having made a splash with the likes of his Vengeance Trilogy (consisting of Oldboy, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance and Lady Vengeance), J.S.A. and most recently his American debut Stoker. But nestled in the middle of all those is this utter gem of a vampire horror, starring Korean superstar Song Kang-ho as a mild-mannered priest who is turned into a vampire after a failed medical experiment. He then faces turning his back on his strict religious beliefs in order to feed on human blood. Its a film thats as shocking as it is elegant, as compelling as it is visually striking, creating a great feeling of suspense throughout, never going in the direction that youd expect and even chucking a few wry laughs in for good measure.
