15 Horror Movies You Can't Miss In 2017
5. Rings
It's surprising that its taken over ten years to release another movie in this series, with our last offering being the slapdash chills of 2005’s Ring 2. While the film was lacking in atmosphere, we were still left with a story to tell, namely, how the heck did TV terror Samara get her powers?
This all looks to be answered in this year’s Rings, which follows on from the events of the first two movies (it’s not the prequel that most were predicting) featuring a new setting, a new cast but, crucially, that same freaky video. This time around a twentysomething (Matilda Lutz) becomes concerned about her boyfriend (Alex Roe) who has become curious about a certain urban legend. One quick viewing later and she’s faced with that ominous seven day countdown, but in a twist, believes she has spotted a video within the video.
Like Blair Witch of last year, Rings is a chance to breathe life into a loved – and lets not forget, profitable – movie series that was only in its infancy when the sequels stopped. As per the recent teaser trailer, expect plenty of body horror to balance out the chills, Vincent D’Onofrio doing his best Brian Cox impression and, in a jumpy plane sequence, the creepy clip in question being rolled out to a bigger audience. How very meta.
