3. Alien: Covenant

After the moody, bleak warm up that was Prometheus, we now have a real Alien movie in our sweaty paws. Covenant is an out and out sequel of Ridley Scott's intriguing sci-fi prequel, the second in a proposed new run of films, with the seasoned director promising a tale that "touches on mortality, immortality and the real question of who created us and why." Presumably we'll learn a bit more about this acids dribbling rascals, too.

Like Aliens that followed Alien, Covenant looks to be packed with action, tracking a rescue team landing on a certain mysterious planet, whereupon they come face to face with Michael Fassbender's lone surviving synth and a host of monsters in the shadows. Katherine Waterson joins the cast as our heroine with Billy Crudup and, erm, Danny McBride as her Covenant crew mates.

The trailer promises lots of stalk and scream action, an ankle-bothering shower scene and hints that there will be some pulse rifle-toting mania. Given the promise of this one, it looks like we can expect all of the above.
