8. Shock: Guardians Of The Galaxy Nominated For Two Oscars
Though nobody expected James Gunn's superhero pic to be scooping major awards nominations, it's still a huge delight that the movie received nods for Best Makeup and Hairstyling and Best Visual Effects. Considering the movie's silly subject matter, one could easily have seen persnickety branches simply ignoring the movie, even if these categories do tend to be a little more adventurous in their nominations (remember, Jackass: Bad Grandpa was nominated for Makeup and Hairstyling last year). Above all else, it's just awesome to see the film doing so well. Considering many expected it to be a critical and commercial dud, it's impressive that it wowed both, and has now also scored some love from the Academy.
