15 Most Exciting Movies Coming In February 2020

3. Parasite - February 7

Arguably the most critically acclaimed film of 2019, Parasite is finally getting a UK release date months after it's taken the world by storm. Dominating the Cannes Film Festival by winning the top prize the Palme d'Or, embarking on a universally well received international festival run across the world and dominating awards season, it feasibly has a chance to be the first non English language feature to win the Oscar's top prize.

The lack of release for Parasite after 9 months of praise has been frustrating for those in the UK desperate to join in on the conversation, and thankfully we're finally getting the chance to see it in national theatres. I was fortunate enough to see the film early back in October and ever since, I've been desperate to rewatch it, so intoxicating is its grasp. While it might not be the best film ever made, it is a brilliantly directed examination of contemporary Korean society, with gnarly insightful class politics and a wonderful control of tension.

Director Bong Joon Ho has received praise for years, from his Korean features like Memories of Murder and The Host, to his partially English language works Okja and Snowpiercer. He has shown his intense consideration of the political climate underneath his violent imaginative genre cinema, and Parasite is the peak of his filmmaking abilities to date.

While Western audiences should be more attentive when it comes to Asian cinema, it's no surprise that Parasite is good enough to get even the most subtitle-adverse audiences invested.
