Monica Bellucci has certainly garnered many male fantasies over the years. One film, however, puts this fantasy at risk from ever appearing in anybody's minds ever again. Gasper Noe's Irreversible is a film that plays in reverse, much like Christopher Nolan's Memento. What sets this film apart, though, is it's unflinching portrayal of violence and sexual assault. In the film's most controversial scene (and arguably, one of the most controversial scenes ever) Monica Belluci's character, Alex, is walking through an under-street tunnel walkway, on her way home. In the tunnel she becomes witness to a man who starts assaulting the woman he is with just as Alex is walking past them. Before she knows it, the other female victim has fled and Alex is left all by herself with the man. At knifepoint, he begins to systematically rape and assault her. One of the many disturbing things about this scene is the mere duration of it - clocking in at just under 10 minutes, we are forced to sit and watch as the camera captures every single moment of the horrific act, from start to finish. When the scene is over you feel like you've witnessed an actual rape and can only take solace in knowing that it's just a film.
