There was plenty of concern about Jurassic World's perceived sexism months before it even came out, as a clip of banter between Claire and Owen (Chris Pratt) was released online. Though everyone involved with the production assured fans that the clip would make more sense with context, the final product itself was criticised for its apparently sexist overtones. Most of the flak is fired at the two central characters: Owen is the stereotypically goofy male hero who has to win the heart of the uptight ice Queen that is Claire, who by the end of the movie embraces her role as surrogate mother to nephews Zach and Gray. It's a very tired trope about domestication, one which many rallied against, asking why Claire needed to "change" in such broad, vaguely insulting strokes over the course of the film.
