6. The Martian: Extended Edition

Considering some of the middling space-set sci-fi films we’ve seen lately, The Martian surprised everybody by becoming one of 2015’s biggest hits. Based on Andy Weir’s 2011 novel of the same name, the Ridley Scott directed movie stars Matt Damon as an astronaut mistakenly left for dead on Mars who uses his ingenuity to send a signal back home to NASA to come rescue his stranded arse and went on to scoop no less than seven Academy Award nominations.

Chances are any self-respecting sci-fi fan already owns The Martian on Blu-ray, but the brand spanking new extended edition includes not only the theatrical cut of the film but an extended cut featuring ten minutes of extra footage. Yes, ten whole extra minutes of Matt Damon.
