20 Best Movie Blu-Rays Of 2016

5. The Jungle Book

Alongside the already released Maleficent and Pete’s Dragon and forthcoming movies Beauty and the Beast and Mulan, The Jungle Book is part of Disney’s current strategy of producing live-action remakes of their own animated classics. The strategy has had some middling results, notably Alice in Wonderland, but thankfully The Jungle Book is a delightful remake that raked in both positive reviews and profit. Directed by Jon Favreau, the movie retains all the charm of the original 1967 film but updates it with stunningly realistic CGI and is bolstered by a great performance by star Neel Sethi as Mowgli and first-rate voice acting from the likes of Bill Murray as Baloo and Idris Elba as Shere Khan.

The movie’s Blu-ray release offers lots of insight into the remaking of a much-loved classic with extras that include a particularly revealing audio commentary with Favreau and a featurette titled ‘I Am Mowgli’ looking at the casting of its young star Sethi. A bare necessity for any self-respecting Disney fan’s Blu-ray collection.
