2. Trilogía De Guillermo Del Toro
Ten years ago, Mexican director Guillermo del Toro released
his gothic fantasy Pan’s Labyrinth. Set in the aftermath of the Spanish Civil
War, the movie focuses on young Ofelia who escapes her brutal reality by
conjuring up an imaginary world populated by eerie, mythical creatures and went
on to receive nigh on universal acclaim and a few Academy Awards too. To mark
the occasion, Criterion are releasing a three-part Blu-ray boxset that includes
Pan’s Labyrinth alongside del Toro’s debut feature Cronos, a Mexico set vampire
flick, and his 2001 gothic horror The Devil’s Backbone.
Featuring stunning illustrations by Russian artist Vania Zouravliov, Trilogía de Guillermo del Toro comes with a tonne of extras including making-of documentaries, del Toro’s 1987 horror short Geometria and a 100-page book with essays by film critics, production notes and sketches. A must-have for any fan of the Mexican master of fantasy.
