20 Films To Watch If You Love Halloween But Hate Horror
10. Coco (2017)
The source of Coco was inspired by the Mexican holiday Day of the Dead – a time where family and friends come together to remember the loved ones who have passed on, and help support their spiritual journey. The movie has a great way of incorporating Mexican beliefs and rituals into the storyline whilst being respectful to the culture.
As well as the wonderful depiction of Day of the Dead, Coco is an exciting movie musical about a young boy who loves music and enters the land of the dead to encounter his great-great-grandfather, after a feud with his family over his dreams of being a musician. The living skeletons, though slightly harrowing at first, are the most charming bunch of human remains you’ll ever see.
Coco is one of Pixar’s best films in years. The world-building is splendidly detailed, the soundtrack is top notch and the ending will move you to tears.
