3. Animal House/The Blues Brothers

Entries 3 and 2 are great for a night of comedy with your friends. As far as comedy is concerned you can't go wrong by starting with Animal House and The Blues Brothers. Both of them are so over the top and unrealistic that they compliment each other perfectly. Obviously they are critically regarded as classics now but back when they were first released they were hardly loved. The two bravura performances of John Belushi are enough to make either one of them worth watching but it's the interplay between their respective casts that make them go so well together. Animal House features a huge cast of fraternity brothers and other vagabonds that all centers on John Belushi's Bluto while The Blues Brothers is the opposite. The Blues Brothers tends to focus its time more on the titular brothers, Jake and Elwood Blues, play by Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi. This gives both films a sense of familiarity but also enough difference to keep them interesting as a double bill.
