For my money, I reckon this is one of the scariest horror movies ever made. It starts off in spectacular pee your pants scary style. We sense the stirrings of evil in a church. The door opens, leaves are blown into the church and a crucifix of Jesus opens its freaking eyes! Argh! Any inanimate object coming to life is scary. But a crucifix? The fact that it is Jesus strikes cold terror into our hearts. The Lord getting involved in a horror film? He should be absolving us of our sins not hanging around with William Peter Blatty.
