20 Movies Destroyed By Their Plot Holes

3. Angels & Demons - Father Patrick's Ludicrous Plan

The bats**t-crazy Angels & Demons unfolds during a turbulent papal conclave. Four cardinals have been kidnapped by an Illuminati assassin, who is threatening to destroy the Vatican with an antimatter bomb. Eventually, symbologist Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) saves one of the cardinals and finds the bomb, which is flown away by the priest Patrick McKenna (Ewan McGregor). As McKenna parachutes down from the helicopter, he hits several things on the way down yet improbably survives.

Impressively, that isn't even the tenth dumbest thing in this one.

As it turns out, McKenna is behind everything. As he felt the late Pope (who he was Camerlengo to) was too open to science, he killed him and invented this plot to turn the Church away from science. Furthermore, he hoped his heroic actions would get him elected as the new Pope. There are so many things wrong with this.

McKenna's entire plan revolved around so many improbable timings and coincidences; he hid the antimatter bomb behind a labyrinthine treasure hunt instead of making it easy to find for his big moment, and regardless of what he'd done, it's extremely unlikely that the Church would elect some random young priest as pope and break centuries of tradition.

Simply put, this is one of the stupidest evil plans in Hollywood history, and the fact that it almost works makes it even more incredulous. This is another one that's so ludicrous that it's hard to view it as anything more than a complete joke.
