20 Movies Destroyed By Their Plot Holes

15. A Quiet Place - None Of It Makes Any Sense

A Quiet Place was the little film that could. It was a dead-average, borderline nonsensical creature feature that somehow became a global critical and commercial hit and has even, to date, spawned two mediocre follow-ups.

Much like with Gone Girl, it's a movie that makes less sense the more you think about it. It unfolds in a post-apocalyptic world where aliens who hunt via sound have somehow overrun the entire planet. So, the might of the world's military couldn't destroy them? Also, at the end, it turns out that high-pitched frequencies can weaken the aliens - did none of the other seven or eight billion humans on Earth discover this when the aliens arrived?

So, the initial setup is implausible, and the main story isn't any better. The aliens' ability to hear sound fluctuates depending on how convenient it is to the plot, and also, there's the main couple deciding to have another child in this scenario. That's the most infamous plot hole, but really, it was just one of many, and A Quiet Place's characters and plot just aren't interesting enough to distract from the total absence of any kind of logic.

A Quiet Place's critical standing seems to have fallen a little in the years since, and that isn't surprising, for all of those questionable plot elements will have become more and more blatant on rewatches.
