20 Movies So Good You Ignore Huge Plot Holes

3. Citizen Kane - No-One Heard Him Say Rosebud

No movie is without flaws, not even Citizen Kane, often touted as the greatest movie of all time. Whether or not it is the GOAT is entirely subjective, but it is a great, great movie, an absolute masterpiece that changed the medium of cinema forever. The fact that Orson Welles did this thing when he was only in his 20s will never cease to amaze.

Still, once again, even Kane has its problems. Namely, the whole inciting incident is Charles Foster Kane's (Orson Welles) last word being "Rosebud," and journalists trying to work out what he meant by this. Well, here's the problem: no-one heard him say it.

Well, a nurse does rush in immediately after he dies, but it's unlikely he said it loudly enough for her to hear it from a different room. Yeah, this one has never really made any sense, and in a curious sort of way, this plot hole is kind of comforting. It's a reminder that even the most celebrated pieces of art have flaws, and that, to echo the closing line of another vintage cinematic masterpiece, "Nobody's perfect."
