20 Movies So Good You Ignore Huge Plot Holes
17. Fall - Ladders, Phone Signals & Other Oddities
Once again, disaster movies are nearly always filled with factual inaccuracies; even the best ones struggle with this. Fall is another example of this common issue.
Fall is a terrifying, palm-sweating thrill ride in which two urban climbers get stranded atop an abandoned television broadcasting tower. It became a huge Netflix hit, so much so that two sequels are on the way, and it deserved this success for it's a hugely successful example of a low-budget, single-location nail-biter. Having said this, disbelief must be suspended. Like, a lot!
First up, the whole set-up is implausible. Even if the tower had been decommissioned, it should've had more safety features still in place, such as a round cage surrounding the ladder that collapses in order to leave the women stranded. Furthermore, due to the build-up of rust, the bolts on the ladder wouldn't have loosened so easily.
Furthermore, there are many other examples of incredulous happenings. The batteries of the women's phones survive for several days, they shouldn't have been able to pilot a drone when it was many hundreds of feet below them, and while the lack of phone signal drives the plot, in real life you can still get a signal at 2,000 feet. They would've been able to call for help.
There are a lot of absurdities in this one, but once again, suspend your disbelief and you'll have a fantastic time. Do not watch if you're afraid of heights, though!
