15. Final Destination 3 - The Rollercoaster Shouldn't Have Crashed

Final Destination 3 has the weakest premonition sequence of the franchise, with even the franchise-worst fourth instalment getting things off to a better start with its racetrack disaster.

The third movie, on the other hand, begins with a rollercoaster derailment that doesn't make the slightest bit of sense. Even ignoring the fact that this gets everything wrong about how rollercoasters work, the ride should not have crashed in this way. In protagonist Wendy's (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) premonition, a thoroughly irresponsible fellow passenger brings a movie camera on board, and when he drops it on a loop, the ride runs it over and this leads to the disaster. 

However, when Wendy starts freaking out, the passenger and his camera both leave the ride, and yet the rollercoaster still crashes. Sure, it was shown that the ride's hydraulics had ruptured and that the track was cracked, but nevertheless, the rollercoaster appears to derail in exactly the same way it did in the premonition without the camera damaging it. 

Nonetheless, once we get past this shaky beginning, the remainder of the film is one of the most purely entertaining and enjoyable horror sequels of the 21st century, maybe even ever. All's well that ends well, then.
