20 Movies So Good You Ignore Huge Plot Holes
14. The Hangover - Doug's On The Roof
Though some of its jokes have aged poorly, The Hangover is still a hilarious and brilliantly acted comedy that consistently delivers the laughs while also being a surprisingly clever, well-thought-out mystery. Well, it mostly is, at the very least.
In this one, Doug (Justin Bartha) goes missing during his own bachelor's party, and his three friends try to find him so that the wedding can go ahead. Unfortunately, they've been drugged, and they can't remember anything about the previous night, meaning that they have to piece it all together, clue by clue.
While the movie's script does a great job with the various hints and red herrings, it ironically fails when it comes to the actual solution to the mystery. It turns out that Doug was actually on the roof of the casino the entire time, which is ridiculous. He apparently made little to no effort to get down, and furthermore, it's a casino. They are filled with CCTV, so someone would've seen Doug. It's a testament to how consistently funny this movie is that this idiotic ending is so easily forgivable.
Ironically enough, the appalling 2011 sequel - mostly a remake pretending to be a sequel - actually came up with a better solution to a similar mystery but was inferior in every other way.
