20 Recent Movie Twists That Fell Completely Flat

7. War Of The Worlds - Dave Is Disruptor

2025's War of the Worlds was mesmerizing in its awfulness. It's got F-tier special effects, it's got Ice Cube giving one of the worst lead performances in recent memory, it's got a confused script, it's got that ridiculous climax where Amazon save the world (at least be subtle with the product placement!) but apparently, all of that wasn't enough. They also had to throw in a weak plot twist that most people saw coming from afar.

To be fair, for reasons that'll be discussed shortly, a scene connected to this reveal went viral so that won't have helped keep it under wraps but even out-of-context, it was easy to work out that the hacker Department of Homeland Security officer William Radford (Ice Cube) was searching for was in fact his teenage son.

The hacker, Disruptor, was mentioned so frequently that it was obvious this character would play a part later in the story, and it seemed likely that it would turn out to be someone the audience knew. In this movie's fairly small cast of characters, Dave (Henry Hunter Hall) was the most likely candidate, especially as he had a troubled relationship with his father and kept criticizing the DHS' activities.

Still, the thing which takes it to the next level of awfulness is, of course, Ice Cube's atrocious acting during the scene where Radford finds out, which is so unintentionally hilarious it's already become a meme.

All together now: "It's you?! It's you!"
