6. Snow White - Dopey Talks
The original Snow White and the Seven Dwarves is a masterpiece. It's not just one of Disney's best films, it's arguably one of the most important movies of all time, as it was the first feature-length animation. As such, to see Walt Disney's own company desecrate the most impactful film in its canon was not a pleasant experience in the slightest.
One of its biggest mistakes was how it handled the dwarves. Alongside rendering them in hideous CGI (instead of giving dwarf actors the opportunity to perform the roles), it neutered their personalities. Most notably, it completely ruined the character of Dopey by jettisoning his comedic energy and giving him a pointless character arc.
In the original version, Dopey is a heart-warming, adorable and hilarious comic-relief, but the 2025 edition tried to fix what was never broke by giving Dopey (voiced by Andrew Barth Feldman) a journey where he's downtrodden and, with Snow White's help, has to learn to speak.
This is one of those cases that reeked of a change just for the sake of it, as it added nothing whatsoever to the movie and sucked out even more of the joy that was in the original. Well, it's possible that this change was a response to some viewing the original Dopey as a problematic depiction of an intellectually-challenged character, but that's arguably an overly literal reading of the material and that doesn't seem to be the most commonly-held view anyhow.
