3. The Woman In Cabin 10 - The Switcheroo

The Woman in Cabin 10 is a useful film for aspiring mystery writers to watch, as it shows exactly how not to do a murder mystery.

This one has a similar premise to Alfred Hitchcock's The Lady Vanishes. While on a superyacht, journalist Laura Blacklock (Keira Knightley) sees a mysterious woman falling overboard but all the passengers are accounted for and no-one else has seen this woman. So, what is going on?

Alas, even those who aren't that attuned to the genre's tropes will guess very quickly. The yacht is owned by Anne Bullmer (Lisa Loven Kongsli), a terminally ill billionaire. In a conversation before the woman is thrown overboard, Anne talks about having stopped taking her medication but afterwards, Anne appears to have completely forgotten this conversation and talks about taking her medication.

As soon as this scene happened, it immediately became all too clear that Anne had been replaced by an imposter and that the real Anne had been the woman thrown overboard - sure enough, that's exactly what happened. It was a bad rug-pull in a very bad movie.
