20 Recent Movies That Deserve A Sequel
3. Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes
With a franchise as big as the Planet of the Apes, there is always going to be talk about further sequels, even coming from some pretty high up Executives, such as the President of 20th Century, Steve Asbell.
However, these comments came in October 2024, and there has been nothing since. The Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes made less than the three Caesar-led outings while coming with the second highest price tag, and was arguably not received as well critically as any of them, so the future is far from certain.
However, taking into account just the numbers for Kingdom away from Andy Serkis' three films, it was commercially successful in its own right and highly enjoyable. Not to mention beautiful, and groundbreaking in terms of the CGI work involved.
No, Caesar was no longer around, but his presence was still very much felt, and the story couldn't have done a better job of setting up for more to come. Given the chance, a trilogy based around Noa (Owen Teague) could go from strength to strength and become better and better, just like the original trilogy did after Rise.
