20 Sequels That Brilliantly Fixed Past Mistakes

7. The Purge: Anarchy - Expanding The Scope

Few were looking forward to The Purge: Anarchy. 2013's The Purge - which unfolds on the one night of the year where all crime is legal - was a massive letdown that wasted its amazing premise on a bog-standard home invasion story with little in the way of social commentary or genuine thrills. Still, it crushed the box office on a tiny budget so, of course, more Purge flicks were inevitable. And what do you know? Said sequel was one of the most pleasantly surprising horror films of the 2010s.

While not a great film or anything, Anarchy was a satisfying step up that saw franchise creator James DeMonaco tapping into this concept's potential at long last. This time, the movie unfolds across Los Angeles and shows the full extent of the Purge and all the craziness that unfolds, all while delivering a multitude of badass action sequences.

The subsequent Purge movies have followed suit in expanding the scope, and as a result, the rest of them have also been considerable improvements on the first film. Despite its terrible start, this IP has ultimately turned out rather well.
