The Terminator films are well known for their groundbreaking technical innovations, like the melted steel T-1000 being some pretty advanced special effects for the time, courtesy of ILM (although they were using painted cells rather than CGI). Back with the low-budget original, however, James Cameron and crew had to use some more basic gadgetry.
