18. Jane Lynch's Character Was Written As A Man

Jane Lynch memorably plays Andy's boss Paula in the movie, and tough though it might be to believe, the part was actually originally written as a male character - presumably a guy called Paul.

But there was a fast-growing feeling on the set that the cast was too male-centric and needed more supporting parts for women to diversify the ensemble.

And so, Lynch ended up winning the part of Andy's boss who oh-so-inappropriately offers to be his "f**k buddy." No word on whether or not that was a new element introduced via the gender-swap, but it's played with gusto by Lynch either way.
