For her turn as Lynn Sear in The Sixth Sense, Toni Collette went on to
receive a Best Supporting Actress nomination at the Academy Awards.

Originally, however, Collette wasn’t even really bothered
about auditioning for The Sixth Sense.
The Velvet Goldmine actress was originally in New York City
to audition for a role opposite Nicolas Cage in Bringing Out the Dead. Almost
as an afterthought, Collette thought she might as well try out for this Sixth
Sense movie while she was in the area.
That Brining Out the Dead role would go to Patricia Arquette,
while Toni Collette ended up with a part that saw her get an Oscar nomination.
