7. Alien: Romulus 2

Alien: Romulus was seen as something of a palate cleanser for the Alien franchise, serving up a solid sci-fi horror yarn even if it was arguably a little too keen to peer back over its shoulder at the series' superior past.

Its success caused a sequel to be swiftly announced, and while fans might be primed to just expect more of the same, that actually might not be the case.

Though Romulus' co-writer and director Fede Álvarez has penned the script for the sequel, he recently confirmed that he wouldn't be returning to direct.

And while this might leave some fans anxious, fear not, as Pig and A Quiet Place: Day One filmmaker Michael Sarnoski is reportedly circling the job.

Sarnoski is one of the most exciting rising filmmakers working today, and his unexpectedly emotional, character-driven prequel to A Quiet Place suggests that he could also very well take Alien to some enticingly surprising places.

Given that Sarnoski, a seasoned writer on his own merits, will likely rewrite Álvarez's script, expect him to punch it up with more humanity and emotional heft.
