20 Upcoming Horror Movies That Might Surprise You
8. Gladys
Because Hollywood refuses to let almost any great horror movie be a one-off, of course the success of Zach Cregger's Weapons led to the speedy announcement that Cregger was developing a prequel centered around its witchy antagonist, Aunt Gladys (played to Oscar-winning perfection by Amy Madigan).
And more than a mere spitball of an idea, it was recently confirmed that the Gladys movie will be released on September 8, 2028, meaning that shooting will likely kick off within the next year-or-so.
As redundant as a Gladys film might seem on paper, especially considering how many classic horror antagonists have been undermined by over-explaining prequels, it's important to remember that Cregger himself is co-writing the film and will be intimately involved in its creation even if he isn't directing.
Between Barbarian and Weapons he's surely earned the benefit of the doubt, that there's actually a story here worth telling beyond the obvious desire to milk the burgeoning IP for some extra dough.
